Okay, I don't think I've seen anything about this on here, but since there are some MLP:FiM [My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic] fans on Keyframe, I'm curious...

Has anyone else seen this movie yet? Also, if it's ever put on here, would it be under Direct to Video or Feature Films? I know that in the US, it got a limited release in theaters [I think the UK and Australia are getting it in some theaters later this month... It'll be on DVD/BluRay in the US this August, but I'm not sure about other areas...], but it'll be more available once the DVD comes out.

I actually got the chance to see the movie in theaters, and I can't wait to write a review for it. All I can say is that I was... pleasantly surprised after the bare-bones typical plot that the first trailer showed [the second trailer's much better, plot-wise]. Plus, I really thought most of the visuals were top-notch... save for a couple of designs, and the music and script were just perfectly written both in catchiness and in humor.

I was originally NOT considering on adding it as a profile, since the initial brouhaha surrounding it was extremely negative, and the whole thing just felt very "one off" to me.  Even now, despite a growing number of acceptance, a good margin of bronies are still very "meh" to it, although nowhere near the raw seething anger that had formed in the vacuum of the pre-release hype.

I'm NOW considering on adding it as a profile, but I already know one Youtube video got slammed, and all the others still up are crummy camcorder captures.  If I want to grab quality pictures for use in the profile, I'll need to wait for the DVD.

Given that the site was set up partially as a way to ward off people from buying the worse that animation has to offer, I would say that negative reaction of a piece of animation in and of itself wouldn't and shouldn't be an excuse to leave something without a profile, if only for the aforementioned reason.

On a objective level, it exists, and we should at least acknowledge that I suppose, whatever people subjective opinions on it are, or will be.

Having had a look at the circumstances of its stateside release, it seems that the maker's had intent enough to warrant a profile in feature. The creators wanted to debut it in public theatres (as opposed to say, a festival or event), so it should be profiled as such. The small window that Hasbro has given it till its video release seems immaterial in this case.

A release in the UK is probably unlikely, as the show's penetration here isn't anywhere as strong as it is stateside - the show only aired here on Boomerang insofar as I know, otherwise you had to "catch" it online. Although it might get a short showing in London, or as a kid special.

Toonboy: Well, we already have even worse pieces of theatrical and DTV animation on here [ *coughcoughNIMH2andotherscoughcough*], so I think it should be more than welcome on here regardless. The site is a place where animation fans can give their two cents on animation, not slam something because it's not like what fans want or because it's unnecessary. Heck, I'm not a fan of most of the current animated films in theaters, but I'm still willing to give them a chance [on DVD] because I love animated movies. Who knows - maybe it'll surprise me.

Besides, I do think it is a slightly off-canon side story [that is actually post-Season 3... and makes more sense than Twilight's "Crystal Heart Spell" which is a bit worse than what I think of "Equestria Girls"... Yes, I have it and read it. Quick summary: it's good for some things but LAME in its obviousness for younger fans of the series. It does have some good canon stuff and a bit of backstory for somepony in it, so read it if you want an okay-but-Hasbro-approved post-Season 3 book!] ... but it's a darn decent off-canon side story in my eyes. "Equestria Girls" is a little LAME but mostly good for reasons that I will save for my review of it. Hopefully before the time the DVD releases [although I hear the Blu-Ray's selling early at Comic-Con right now... lucky!], there will be some awesome quality caps for you to use.

Or you could try the FiM Wikia? I've seen some decently-good caps for the movie on there, but eep, so many spoilers abound. ...Maybe it would be best to wait if you want to check it out!

starlac: It's definitely getting a limited theater release in the UK for a weekend [Source], and I know the Hub's airing it September 1st stateside [though the DVD itself comes out August 6th in the US, which I will try to snag!]. Some other countries are getting TV airings early too, like Malaysia [end of July] and Germany [early August], so it's getting more exposure worldwide. I hope you do get a chance to see it eventually if you're interested in the series [or for something slightly off-canon]!

Toonboy: Actually, I did find THIS to help you out on getting HD quality caps of "Equestria Girls". Hopefully it remains up long enough for you to get it!

UPDATE: I actually have the US DVD of the film [it came out a couple of days ago], so I can give you any necessary screencaps that you need to make the page. Just let me know if you'd like any!

Also, I think Youtube took down the link, so... no worries.
