Jack Frost

The Groundhog tells the tale of the time the mischevious winter sprite, Jack Frost, became human. As a sprite, Jack flew down among the people unseen and nipped noses, chilled window panes and spread his frost and ice everywhere. But when he falls in love with beautiful Elisa, he asks Father Winter to make him human so he can be with her. After his request is granted and Elisa takes Jack home for dinner (not knowing he is really Jack Frost), he learns about the terrible Kubla Kraus, King of the Cosacks, who is terrorizing Elisa's family and the other peasants living in January Junction...

Not so much as entirely Christmas as plain winter special, this is my favorite of the Rankin-Bass collection. Like Rudolph, Jack Frost feels a bit out of place and lonely...
