Fine Feathered Friend

Chased by Tom, Jerry hides from his feline antagonist in the nest of a chicken; which subsequently thinks that Tom is after her eggs - a notion she's none too please with. After several attempts by the cat to find the mouse, the eggs hatch and Jerry finds himself having to hide from Tom among the chicks.

Kenneth Muse's first Tom & Jerry cartoon for MGM (MGM shorts were not released as they were made, but rather staggered over a period, hence any disparity between this short and others released earlier).

Kenneth Muse was a Disney animator who had worked on animation for various Mickey shorts, as well as scenes in Pinocchio and Fantasia. He left Disney during the strike to go to MGM, where he helped refined Tom and Jerry's model sheets to their more steamlined, familiar appearence.

The hen has a batch of six eggs, but when they hatch only five chicks are seen. The number of chicks changes from five to six throughout the cartoon.
