After years of superhero cartoons being more laughable than 'super', "Batman: The Animated Series" came in and promptly blew everyone's socks off. The dark edginess and crisp styling of the show was something no one had ever seen before on television and its look has since been dubbed 'Dark Deco'.
There have been a number of spin-off series that have tried for a similar look including "Batman Gotham Knights" and "Batman Beyond", however the original is still arguably the best.
