Based on: the books by Jean de Brunhoff and Laurent de BrunhoffThe 1989 version is sometimes referred to as the "Classic" Babar TV series as there was a 2D remake of "Babar" done in 2000. Also created by Nelvana, this 13 episode series featured a new voice cast with many episodes having Babar and his family travel by hot-air balloon to distant lands. French author Laurent de Brunhoff pronounces the name Babar as "BUH-bar", but the TV series pronounces the name as "BAB-bar".
